As some of you who also frequent Paws Park, you may have noticed the abscence of Roxie and Tiki lately. Well Roxie has been fine, but we were taking caution of Kennel Cough as we went thru that with her at the send of last summer. It was a heartbreaking experience! So my heart goes out to all of you who have had this!
Tiki on the other hand has been extremely ill. She has been vomiting and had diarreah since Thurs evening, March 20. I immediately started doing some research online to see what the problem could be as BT owners we know they can have their own set of issues (soft, enlongated pallets, allergies, joint problems, etc). And best of all it was Good Friday, Easter weekend so our vet was closed until Monday. In the mean time I kept her home and confined giving her Pepto and Pedialite to help control her issues. So on Monday first thing off to the vet I took her and she tested positive for a parasite! I was extremely worried as we have two BT's (as well as many members do), we feed them well balanced diets, no human foods, they are groomed atleast once a week we exercise them regualry, always clean up after them they generally only play in our yard, my sisters yard (they have no pets) and the dog park. I was very inquisitive on how she may have gotten this parasite, if it was contagious, how long will take to clear this up, etc. My BT's take Sentinal every month so I was really suprised to hear she had a parasite. The vet suggested it was most likely picked up at the dog park by stepping, walking, running through an area where another infected dog had pooped/vomited and then licked herself, advised it was contagious and to make sure we cleaned up after her very well every time she had an episode to protect Roxie from catching it. The vet has her on some meds and says she should be ok in about week. So if your BT's start having any of these systems, I would suggest getting him/her to the vet as soon as possible. It has been a very unpleasant experience for all of us as you may imagine. She is getting better little by little every day, getting her appetite back and wanting to play which we are very happy to see! I know often times it's hard to keep your eye on your pet(s) every second you're at the park as they are generally running around like crazy (finally free). But please keep a look out for them going to the bathrroom and if you see someone else not paying attention to their pet(s) while going to the bathroom please, please let them know so it will get cleaned up. I really don't want anyone else to go thru what we have all been going thru in our house. We will see everyone, hopefully at the next meet up, April 13. We want to make sure Tiki is completely well before we bring her back! |

Thank you for posting!! I hope she feels better. Jax had the same issue about two weeks ago. The vet tested for a parasite but it was negative. He told me just to treat his symptoms. He took some meds and some bland food and the vomitting stopped but not the other. I am keeping him home from the park til we get this fixed! Hope to see both of you in April!
