Hi all,
We have been putting out bits and pieces of information as we've gotten them, but that can be confusing, so I’m sending this out with all relevant information for attending, contact and/or donations for our upcoming event. For the new folks on the list, we’re having a Show of Solidarity and Fundraiser to keep the issue of Bandit, the Boston who was slaughtered and mutilated at Rex Putnam High School a few weeks ago, alive in the eyes of the community, to support the OHS Investigation Department with funds raised, and to educate and raise awareness in hopes that someone who knows something will come forward. I will notify the Meetup Group of Seattle and some members and officers of the BTCWW, as we have some interested parties there; Lynne, announcements? Kelly, BTCWW and BTCA? Lorene, BTCP not on e-mail list? Thank you all for your help. *The Show of Solidarity gathering and fundraiser is set for noon Saturday, September 19th, at Normandale Park, on 57th at Halsey, in the Hollywood District of Portland. It’s an off-leash, double-gated, two-sided (large and small/timid) dog park with a nice area outside the gates for our tables, announcements, and on-leash, crates or x-pens. *Funds raised will be given directly to the INVESTIGATIONS DEPT. of the Oregon Humane Society, NOT general funds. Please make checks out to OHS, mail them to our PO Box (info below) or bring them to the event, and we’ll include them with our collective amount. We CAN get a receipt for you if you let us know that you want one. *Donations of items for sale, raffle, or “gate” prizes can either be mailed to the PO Box or picked up by one of us, just let us know at justiceforbandit@gmail.com if you have something to donate, and we’ll make arrangements to get it from you. Melissa asked that we use this address, as she has a ‘touchy’ server that doesn’t like yahoo e-mails, and she wants to be sure we don’t miss anything. We'd like to have all donated items by Sept. 4th so that we can assemble 'packages', mark items for sale, or as a 'gate prize'. *BTCP, BTCWW, and OHS have been invited to provide educational information (OHS has two other events that day, but is sending a packet with information to have at the event), and we also invite Boston Rescue Coordinators to come and bring some dogs they have available for adoption as well. Please let us know if you plan to do that at justiceforbandit@gmail.com so that we can plan accordingly. *We’re going to need tables to put our prize packages and sale items on, and ideally some sun/rain protection for our tables at our event if you have some or know where we can ‘borrow’ some. We have a rental solution, but wanted to ask around and see if we could find some loaners before we spent the money. We'll also need some ice chests for drink sales, and a few other items, but we'll send that out as we get more organized. *We invited the investigators, OHS, Seattle Meetup members, BTCP, BTCWW, staff and students of Rex Putnam High School, and anyone else who wants to come and show their concern, including non-Boston dog owners and their dogs. The Marrs, Bandit’s family, politely declined our invitation, but are very appreciative of what we’re doing and thanked us all in advance. We’re hoping for a nice turnout, but parking is limited, so we suggest getting there early. *We’re asking for volunteers to help us with sales, raffle tickets, etc., if you’d like to take a half-hour shift or two. We, the organizers, are definitely planning to be there to work, but we would like a short break so that we can enjoy the event, too. *There will be a schedule of announcements and drawings for prizes that will be sent out a few days ahead of time. Winners must be present to claim their prize(s). *We will have a limited variety of drinks for sale at the event. Again, our donation/contact information is as follows (feel free to pass it along to anyone you may encounter who would like to be included): Bandit's Event c/o Angie Ferguson PO Box 7183 Beaverton, OR 97007 FriendsOfTheBostons@verizon.net (questions; clubs or rescuers confirming attendance) justiceforbandit@gmail.com (donations) Happy Tails, Angie Ferguson Boston Terrier Breeder Referral Contact Boston Terrier Meetup Group of Portland Asst.
