"Red and white" or "Seal and white" bostons some call them, I've had mixed responses on whether or not you're suppose to breed them. If your dog is healthy and has had a vet check and been tested for potential genetic problems that could occur with breeding, why not breed a red and white boston? I have a beautiful, HEALTHY red and white Boston (he is also AKC) who has fathered two litters and they both came out beautifully and have been checked/tested. Is this wrong? Because if it is, doesn't seem to be... Any thoughts from anyone would be interesting, positive or negative on the subject..thanks a bunch.

Hi, to try to answer your questions, The male dog in your avatar picture is RED and WHITE boston terrier, SEAL is BLACK but when you look at the fur in the bright sun light it has a very small hint of brownish red to it. Now technicly you are NOT suppost to breed RED boston terriers, because they are NOT recognized, the only colors recognized are brindle/white, black/white, and seal/white. NO REDS or BROWNS or any other colors, they are NOT allowed. Personally I think your RED BT male is absolutly beautiful, stunning markings! But unfortunally that red or brown color is NOT allowed, and therefore is considered irresponsible to breed them. You cannot get a RED or BROWN BT registered with AKC, try looking at The AMerican Kennel Clubs website and The Boston Terrier Club of America's website, mabe that will help you a little more. OR just type in Boston terrier breed information into your browser and more sites will pop up. Good Luck!smile

http://www.boston-ter...

This site cleared up a lot to me =)

Also, if anyone is knowledgable in the TRUE seal coloration, I would love for them to contact me and tell me what they know. I want to know the TRUTH. Thanks, and I hope this link is as helpful to everyone else as it was to me.

I'm not sure about the akc's current coloring code on Boston terriers. But if you look through the early history of the breed, there is evidence of breeders using mahogany red bulldogs in the early development of the breed. I'm not an expert but i would assume that some of their genetics would inevitable trickle down. Thus producing red or brown Boston terriers, even if both parents are black and white , or brindle and white.

Yes, it does happen rarely even to some reputable breeders but when it does the breeder if they are reputable will have that puppy fixed and sel it as pet quality. The same thing occasionally happens with a puppy being born with a blue eye and neither one of the parents had blue eyes.

While I agree with you about health testing, etc. You are broadcasting mis-infomation. You CAN register a red boston with AKC as RED or LIVER!

I apologize, I just saw you can register those colors online but online only. I stand corrected.

No problem, I just wanted to clarify. Most people either aren't aware, or can't be bothered. I don't even own a red, fawn, blue, or green BT. I have done a lot of research on them though (for my personal pedigree records), and there seems to be a lot of myths out there about them. I just hate to read all the BS about inherent genetic faults, not being pure bred, and diluted colors etc.

Apparently you can do it by mail too if you send in a photo and written request. You can even change the colors on dogs that are mis-registered. If everyone that had a red that's registered as seal would get the color changed, iIt would save a lot of time in pedigree research.

Oh definnatly! I have seen and heard many people claiming they have seal BTs but actually have red or liver, I think most of the time the people claiming this just don't really know much about it, I don't think they are intentionally mixing up the colors they are just uninformed.
